Design is important on a website - not only because it give a strong, clear first impression, but because it organises and provides access to information for visitors to your website. Along with clever code and good content, it will give visitors such a good experience on your website that they'll keep coming back.

We understand website design as a couple of different skills:

Digital Artistry

What is commonly referred to as website design is handled by a digital artist. This person looks at colour, texture and style. They look at how a website "looks"; how the images are handled; how the text is formatted. Good design can make or break a website, because, more than simply choosing colour, the digital artist is placing colour contrast so that a visitor to the website can easily navigate through the site, pick out the important key facts, and find the answers they came looking for. A bad "website designer" will make it more difficult for a visitor to find what they want.

Website Architecture

Artchitecture is the broader view of the design of the site. The information architect works from the content that is to be presented on the site, and delivers it such that the content aids the aims of the website.

We look at the layout of the website, how the navigation and other key site elements are placed, and what information is above the fold and what is below. All of this determines the ease with which information is delivered on the site. It goes without saying that a website with badly planned information structures will only confuse visitors to the site.

We are very deliberate about the choices we make when it comes to designing websites - we are not just filling up a portfolio with cool-looking website (although our portfolio is pretty cool... well, you can see for yourself). We are making conscious decisions that will help visitors to the website achieve what they set out to achieve and feed your business more interest, leads and sales from your website.
